Spark: Celebrating Oakland Mentors and Community Happy Hour
Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM (PST)
Join Spark for a Mentor Appreciation Happy Hour in Oakland, our newest Bay Area region, celebrating National Mentoring Month! NMM recognizes the importance of mentors for young people across the country.
Whether you're a current or past mentor or curious about how to get yourself or your company, we invite you to come mingle with staff, board members and community supporters in Oakland. After just one semester serving students in Oakland, Spark is excited to start 2013 and it's all possible through our mentors and friends. We look forward to honoring our current and past partners, and sharing gratitude and stories.
Hear brief remarks from local Oakland leaders, share experiences with fellow mentors or ask staff questions about becoming more involved as a mentor or supporter in 2013. A great way to kick off the new year!
As part of our Mentor Appreciation, Spark is pleased to honor several wonderful mentor and ambassador partners.
Event Speaker and Oakland Councilmember Libby Schaaf will present awards to our honorees.
Appetizers and Cash Bar.
Can't attend but want to learn more? Visit www.sparkprogram.org to get involved! We're recruiting now for Spring 2013!
When & Where
Spark, a national nonprofit with offices in San Francisco, Redwood City, Oakland, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Philadelphia, offers a unique program that re-engages middle school students in their education through hands-on apprenticeships and leadership curriculum. Spark partners with schools and workplaces in six cities coast-to-coast to match low-income 7th and 8th graders with mentors working in career fields aligned with the students’ strengths and interests. Spark’s parallel in-school curriculum reinforces the link between classrooms and careers while helping students build skills key to success in the 21st century.
